Description

Project Palliative Physician enables home-based palliative care for children with cancer throughout Germany. Since the start of funding in 2016, the Jona Viskorf Foundation has annually provided €30,000 to finance a specially qualified physician position within the framework of the palliative project "Little Giants." The service combines medical pain therapy with psychosocial support and ensures constant on-call availability. This relieves affected families from the often burdensome hospital stays and ensures optimal care for the "little patients" in a familiar environment. The goal is to stabilize the quality of life of seriously ill children and to quickly alleviate acute symptoms.

The funding is exclusively aimed at non-profit organizations and public institutions that already operate a home-based palliative care project and have proven expertise in pain therapy as well as psychosocial support. The grant covers 100% of the personnel costs for the physician position and is awarded for a duration of 12 months. Applications can be submitted year-round, thereby ensuring continuous continuation of care. The foundation places special emphasis on close collaboration between medical professionals and psychosocial specialists to enable holistic care and provide comprehensive support to the children and their families during this challenging time.
