Funding objective
Measures are funded that promote the competencies of young people from kindergarten age up to the end of compulsory schooling in the STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology) and stimulate the research interest of children and adolescents. This includes educational projects in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, the provision of learning materials, the development of innovative teaching models, target group-specific informational materials, projects on role models in technology, qualification and further training measures for educational staff, as well as studies in the thematic area.

Description
The funding program “Projects to Promote Competencies in Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Technology” strengthens STEM skills of children and adolescents in Burgenland. The goal is to spark early interest in research and technology and to deepen mathematical as well as scientific understanding. Diverse educational initiatives are supported, ranging from kindergartens and primary schools to secondary schools. These include, among others, interactive workshops, practical stations in computer science, and experimental laboratories as well as digital learning modules. Innovative teaching models and target group-specific informational materials assist educational staff in implementing engaging learning formats. Projects that highlight role models in technology and thereby promote gender diversity in technical professions are also funded.
Eligible for funding are educational institutions, public institutions, and non-profit organizations in Burgenland, including university of applied sciences programs, university institutions, research societies, and schools. Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2030. The grant is provided as a direct subsidy and covers the acquisition of learning materials, the development of new teaching concepts, qualification and continuing education measures for educators, as well as scientific studies on the effectiveness of STEM promotion. With a budgeted volume of 0.5 million euros, the state of Burgenland supports projects that provide sustainable impulses for the next generation of researchers and engineers.
