Description

The Hamburg Donation Parliament Foundation supports Hamburg-based non-profit organizations with one-time start-up and bridging grants to combat poverty, homelessness, and social isolation. The goal is to enable initiatives to become operational quickly so that affected individuals can be helped immediately. Projects are funded that either start anew or expand existing services to bridge short-term financial gaps. The focus is on effective measures for social participation in disadvantaged neighborhoods as well as support for children, youth, and families in precarious life situations.

Funding applications can be submitted by entities recognized by the tax office as non-profit or charitable and lacking sufficient own funds. One-time grants are awarded exclusively for personnel, fees, and material costs; ongoing funding and retroactive expenses are excluded. Selection is based on non-profit status, relevance to needy target groups, urgency, and economical use of funds. Required documents include a project description, financing overview, tax exemption certificate, as well as proof of own funds and requested funds. Applications must be submitted in time before the next sessions of the Donation Parliament (e.g., 14.01.2026, 15.04.2026, 01.07.2026, 09.09.2026, 19.11.2026). The Finance Commission reviews the completeness and appropriateness of the application packages and prepares decision proposals. In a public meeting, applicants present their projects before funding is allocated democratically.
