Projects that align with the foundation’s purpose and contribute to strengthening social cohesion, promoting democratic values, or supporting development cooperation are funded. Cultural and media projects, agricultural initiatives, as well as infrastructure and urban development projects may also be submitted. The foundation continuously grants subsidies for workshops, symposia, publications, awards, and competitions, and awards scholarships to support pupils and students. Applications can be submitted electronically or by mail at any time without fixed deadlines; a swift decision-making process is ensured through regular meetings of the board and supervisory board.

Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, public institutions, educational providers, as well as private individuals with non-profit projects. For a successful application, official application forms must be used and a project outline including title, description, timeframe, and intended impacts must be submitted. The application is supplemented by proof of non-profit status, a detailed cost and financing plan, a sworn statement regarding the economic situation, and – if available – tools for project or self-evaluation. Based on these documents, the foundation assesses the eligibility of the project for funding and, if applicable, identifies additional sources of financing.
