Description

The project funding of the Hermann Reemtsma Foundation is aimed at non-profit and charitable public law entities in Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia. Grants support cultural initiatives such as monument preservation, restoration, cultural heritage conservation, and museum acquisitions, as well as social initiatives in early childhood, rural areas, women’s empowerment, homelessness assistance, and hospice care. The goal is to preserve public monuments and cultural assets, promote self-help, and strengthen community spirit, entrepreneurial thinking, and initiative among applicants. Depending on the project, funding amounts ranging from a few thousand up to one million euros may be granted. Cooperation with other third-party funders is expressly encouraged.

Eligible for funding are associations, foundations, independent welfare organizations, municipal sponsors, and recognized religious communities. An informal written application—by post or as a PDF via email—must include a project description, cost and financing plan, timeline and action plan, cost estimates or quotes or expert reports (for cultural projects), as well as information on target groups and outcomes (for social projects). Additionally, a cover letter stating the requested amount, up to three photographs, information about the institution, and a copy of the current tax exemption certificate must be submitted. Selection takes place semi-annually: applications received by March 1 are decided in May, those received by September 1 in November by the foundation’s board. Excluded are ongoing funding, grants for general administrative budgets, training, travel, events, scholarships, printing costs, and furniture. Applicants who demonstrate strong commitment and a clear own contribution increase their chances of receiving funding.
