Description
The project funding of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony is aimed at natural and legal persons, companies, associations, foundations, and educational institutions based or residing in Saxony, who plan art and cultural projects with supraregional, statewide, or international impact. With an annual budget of approximately €3.6 million, this is the foundation’s largest funding area. In the fields of visual arts, performing arts, music, film, literature, socioculture, industrial culture, and interdisciplinary projects, only initiatives with outstanding artistic quality and a clearly identifiable substantive profile are supported. An independent expert advisory board conducts the evaluation and decides on the applications twice a year. A minimum own contribution of 5% of the total expenses is mandatory, with the foundation usually covering 50% to 90% of the eligible costs.
Eligible costs include material and fee expenses, travel and accommodation costs, insurance and fee payments (e.g., GEMA/KSK), as well as expenses for acquisitions or production of items, provided these are necessary and economical for project implementation. Non-eligible are investment measures, commercially oriented events, benefit events, traditional customs maintenance, or projects previously rejected. Applications can be submitted via the online form by March 1 and September 1 each year. A complete application includes a concise project description (3–5 pages), a presentation of the applicants, information on key participants, and for associations, the statutes and certificate of non-profit status. Accounting is done through a usage report with a factual and financial report as well as supporting documents. This funding instrument offers cultural actors in Saxony the opportunity to sustainably realize their innovative projects and make them visible beyond the state borders.
