The goal is to strengthen research communication, promote educational equity, preserve cultural heritage, defend press freedom, and support social cohesion. Funding applications must be submitted in PDF format approximately six months before the project start date and must include proof of nonprofit status, classification within the statutory funding area, as well as a detailed cost and financing plan. General budget deficits, sponsorships, in-kind donations, and printing cost subsidies are not funded.
In the selection process, reviewers place great emphasis on the project's innovativeness, sustainability, synergy potential, and originality, taking into account the applicants’ own contribution as well as the involvement of additional funding partners. Projects by tax-privileged corporations, cultural institutions, research facilities, and civil society initiatives throughout Germany are particularly supported. Applicants benefit from a transparent review process and the foundation’s long-standing expertise in initiating and supporting nonprofit projects. Interested organizations receive not only financial resources through this funding but also a platform for networking and substantive exchange to sustainably increase their visibility and impact.
