Description
The Capital Cultural Fund (HKF) in Berlin awards annual grants for outstanding individual projects and events across all artistic disciplines, as well as inter- and transdisciplinary initiatives with national and international impact. Funding is provided for, among others, visual arts, performing arts, film, literature, media art, and music developed and presented in Berlin. Eligible applicants include natural and legal persons, independent groups, institutions, and international partnerships. Essential funding requirements include guaranteeing at least four performances or events in Berlin (exceptions apply for exhibitions/festivals), project implementation not yet started, submission in German, and consideration of ecological sustainability and accessibility. The maximum funding amount is €200,000 per project, with particular coverage for artistic (co-)production costs, rental, personnel, and material expenses. Commercially viable projects, purely digital or streaming formats, and expenses already institutionally funded are not eligible.
Applications are submitted exclusively online via the application portal of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion; submission deadlines are April 15 and October 1 each year (next deadline: 15.04.2026, 2 p.m.). Required documents for the application include, among others, a detailed project description (max. 5 DIN A4 pages), a detailed financing plan (template provided), a venue confirmation including accessibility, an artistic CV, and a project specification. The jury evaluates applications based on artistic quality, innovation, ecological sustainability, and accessibility. The aim of the HKF is to promote supraregional and international networking, continue cultural traditions, and strengthen Berlin as a creative-artistic driving force on a national and international level.
