Description
The German Foundation for Heart Research supports innovative clinical and basic science projects aimed at investigating cardiovascular diseases. With a one-time grant of up to €80,000 for a duration of up to two years, patient-oriented research is particularly promoted to develop novel approaches in prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. Especially early-career researchers receive important seed funding that facilitates the start of their research careers and contributes to the sustainable strengthening of cardiovascular medicine.
Funding is provided to educational institutions throughout Germany that plan research projects with a clear patient-oriented focus. Eligible applicants are universities and academic institutes designing projects in the fields of basic research (e.g., treatment mechanisms, aftercare) or clinical studies. Eligible costs include research contracts, clinical studies, and personnel expenses, while equipment purchases are excluded. Evaluation is based on scientific quality, the patient-oriented approach, and the potential for broad public impact. Interested researchers may submit their applications at any time and must include, alongside a detailed project description and financing plan, CVs, a recommendation from the institute’s leadership, and, if applicable, the ethics committee’s approval and a statement regarding animal testing.
