Journalism Award of the Health Foundation

The Journalism Award of the Health Foundation annually honors outstanding journalistic contributions on the topic of health and awards professional media creators as well as dedicated local editorial teams with a total prize money of €3,000. In ten diverse categories – ranging from print articles and books to online videos, podcasts, and multimedia works – freely published works from the previous year are recognized. An independent panel of experts and specialists evaluates submissions based on quality and research, clear and impactful information delivery, as well as their contribution to patient empowerment. The aim of the award is to promote high-quality health journalism, highlight important topics, and empower patients through well-founded reporting.

All privately submitted contributions first published in the year prior to the award are eligible to participate. The application phase takes place each autumn and ends in January of the following year; complete documentation and submission in one of the defined categories are prerequisites for a successful nomination. Upon receipt, the editorial team of the Health Foundation reviews the materials; subsequently, expert jurors and former awardees select the winners through a multi-stage process. The formal award ceremony takes place in late summer. With this distinction, the Health Foundation sets a mark for credible, patient-oriented reporting and inspires journalists to consistently go the extra mile.
