Description
This funding is aimed at media owners of daily and weekly newspapers, online media, as well as magazines targeting the Austrian audience. It consists of a basic grant calculated based on the number of full-time equivalent journalists employed. In addition, cumulative supplementary amounts of ten percent of the base amount each can be obtained once defined quality criteria are met. The funds are available to companies, non-profit organizations, and public institutions throughout Austria and support the long-term safeguarding of opinion and media diversity. Applications can be submitted online at any time, ensuring a flexible and low-threshold application process.
The criteria for additional funding include the conclusion of an editorial statute in accordance with § 5 MedienG, the implementation of an error management system, the establishment of a quality assurance system, as well as the submission and application of gender equality plans within the company. The combination of these requirements promotes transparency, professionalism, and equality in daily editorial work. Through financial support, not only is the core journalistic work strengthened, but incentives are also created to establish effective internal structures for quality assurance. In this way, the measure makes a sustainable contribution to strengthening the Austrian media location and securing diverse, independent journalism.
