Description
The funding initiative “Quality Journalism: Self-Regulatory Bodies in the Print and Online Sectors as well as Press Clubs” is aimed at representative self-regulatory bodies of the Austrian press and non-profit associations whose primary task is the organization of press conferences. The objective of the annual grant of up to €230,000 (plus any reserves and interest) is the sustainable safeguarding of their independence, the fulfillment of statutory tasks, and the effective enforcement of decisions and resolutions. Both non-profit organizations and public institutions that strengthen editorial integrity and permanently consolidate their position in the Austrian media landscape are supported. The assistance is provided in the form of a 100% subsidy, enabling reliable planning of self-regulatory work.
Eligible costs include personnel expenses, material costs, interest, and reserves, provided they directly serve the statutory mandate. A prerequisite for a successful application is the submission of a detailed cost schedule, an organizational and personnel plan, as well as proof of compliance with the provisions of the Quality Journalism Funding Act and the associated guidelines. Applications can be submitted until 30.06.2029. Evaluation is based, among other criteria, on representativeness, scope of control tasks, and the economic significance of the members. In this way, the federal government promotes the strengthening of media literacy and the quality of journalistic self-regulation at the federal level.
