Public institutions such as cities and municipalities with up to 50,000 inhabitants, districts, legally dependent municipal enterprises, as well as limited special-purpose associations can finance up to 100% of the investment costs, with a maximum of €10 million per year. The loans feature flexible terms between 3 and 50 years and are aimed at projects to improve electricity, gas, and water networks, wastewater and waste disposal, municipal heating networks, flood and climate protection measures, as well as the expansion of public administrative and educational facilities.
Furthermore, investments in renewable energies, local public transport, road construction, and open-access capable broadband provision, as well as cultural and sports recreational facilities, are supported. Debt restructuring and cash advances are excluded. A combination with other public funds is possible. Applications can be submitted at any time through the applicant’s house bank, which forwards the documents to the Rentenbank. The goal is to sustainably strengthen the economic and municipal environment of rural areas, enhance quality of life, and provide reliable infrastructures for future generations.
