Description
In Bavaria, the boarding offer of the Mathilde-Trendel Foundation provides a year-round opportunity for residential care of children and adolescents with intellectual and multiple disabilities of school age. Located in an idyllic suburban area of Kulmbach, up to 16 places are available in two family-run groups, enabling 5- or 7-day care. The goal is comprehensive participation in social life through individually tailored educational and therapeutic measures. The educational staff work interdisciplinarily with curative education nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and physiotherapists to promote existing abilities and strengthen psychosocial skills. Single and double rooms are designed according to needs, and the in-house kitchen provides all residents daily with fresh meals.
Cost coverage is generally provided through integration assistance pursuant to § 53 et seq. SGB XII by the responsible cost bearer. A prerequisite for admission is a diagnosis of intellectual or multiple disability in school age as well as approval of the residential placement by the supra-local social welfare agency. Exclusion criteria include acute psychiatric treatment needs, high risk of harm to others, or substance-related dependencies. Through a holistic educational approach with a clearly structured daily schedule, practical life skills training, and regular leisure programs (e.g., nature trails, excursions with the boarding school bus), maximum independence and a secure daily routine are promoted. Interested parties can inquire at any time and apply for a place if capacity is available.
