Description
The Goethe-Institut supports emerging theater and dance artists in Germany in taking their first international steps. The travel cost funding for emerging artists covers the expenses for travel and transport to guest performances outside the German-speaking region up to twice per applicant. Eligible are professional emerging artists – from advanced students at theater schools to artists with several years of experience – who have received an invitation to perform outside the German-speaking area. Particular importance is given to sustainable travel decisions: train journeys are preferentially funded for trips up to seven hours or 600 kilometers, and possible additional costs compared to flights are reviewed. At the time of application, no binding bookings may have been made. Submitted documents include, among others, the production description, invitations, a detailed financing plan, as well as at least two comparative travel cost offers – for flights, an additional low CO₂ emission offer is required.
Applications can be submitted continuously, with deadlines on November 15, February 15, May 15, and August 15 for the following quarter. After successful funding, the possibility rests for one calendar year to enable as many young ensembles and solo artists as possible to benefit from this career boost. Selection is based on the professional, early-career status of the applicants, compliance with sustainability criteria, and the proper submission of all required documentation. With this program, the Goethe-Institut promotes intercultural dialogue, strengthens the artistic profile of the German emerging talent, and supports the development of valuable international networks.
