Resocialization / Engagement in the Penal System

The DFB Foundation Sepp Herberger initiates and funds nationwide sports-related projects within the penal system with the goal of sustainably reintegrating prisoners into society. As part of the initiative "Kick-off for a New Life," the foundation supports correctional facilities in providing sports equipment such as balls and jerseys. Prominent football personalities regularly visit prisons to share their personal life stories in conversations and to conduct football training sessions together with inmates. These encounters open up new perspectives that strengthen motivation and social skills and promote the resocialization process.

Eligible for funding are public institutions of the German penal system, which may submit their sponsorship applications at any time. Priority is given to expenses for sports equipment to enable diverse physical activity offerings. Young people are particularly the focus of this funding measure, as early positive impulses have long-term effects. Support is provided continuously – there is no fixed deadline. Applying correctional facilities benefit from closing equipment gaps, facilitating encounters with foundation ambassadors, and making a sustainable contribution to the reintegration of inmates. The holistic focus on sports, social engagement, and personal development makes this commitment a significant component of the work of the DFB Foundation Sepp Herberger.
