Resource-efficient methods, production processes, and materials

The funding program "Resource-efficient Processes, Production Methods, and Materials" supports innovative projects nationwide that drastically reduce raw material and material consumption throughout the entire product lifecycle and minimize pollutant emissions. Pre-competitive development projects in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, and founders with forward-looking resource-efficient processes are eligible for funding. Educational and research institutions can submit practice-oriented educational and research projects that convey sustainability knowledge and strengthen competencies for resource-conserving actions. The funding is provided in the form of a grant; applications can be submitted continuously and are aimed at all entities pursuing a holistic and exemplary solution approach to reducing resource consumption.

The focus includes, among other things, new production methods that increase efficiency in raw material-intensive value chains, material and surface technology developments for significant reduction of material use, as well as innovative processes to close material cycles at a high value-added level. Also eligible for funding are concepts for substituting harmful substances, processes for recovering problematic materials, and educational initiatives to promote systemic thinking. Projects are evaluated based on their degree of innovation, contribution to resource efficiency over the lifecycle, as well as their comprehensiveness and exemplary character. The goal is to establish sustainable technologies and competencies that combine environmental protection and economic efficiency in the long term. Interested companies, founders, educational providers, and non-profit organizations can apply at any time and thus actively contribute to the climate-friendly transformation of industry.
