Guideline FTI-Thuringia INVEST

The grant program FTI-Thuringia INVEST of the Free State of Thuringia specifically strengthens research infrastructure and innovation centers at scientific institutions as well as industry-related research institutions in the state. Funding is provided for investments in research-related equipment and digital infrastructure, personnel expenses for technical and administrative staff, as well as indirect costs flat-rated at 7%. The support aims to increase technological performance, advance knowledge and technology transfer between research and industry, and consolidate the priorities identified in the Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) for smart specialization. Eligible to apply are all scientific institutions based in Thuringia for the expansion of innovation centers, as well as industry-related research institutions for equipment and digital infrastructure. A prerequisite is the implementation of the project in Thuringia, prior examination of possible federal and EU funding, and assignment to a RIS specialization field.

The funding rate ranges from 50% to 100%, depending on the type of expenditure: research equipment and digital infrastructure are subsidized up to 90% and 50%, respectively, while personnel costs can be fully funded. The project duration is between 36 and 60 months, with a maximum amount of up to EUR 10 million for innovation centers and up to EUR 1 million per project under WINAFO Invest/Digital. Evaluation criteria include conformity with the RIS Thuringia, degree of innovation, contribution to the further development of scientific core competencies, market and economic relevance, as well as sustainability strategy. Applications are submitted on fixed deadlines via the Thuringian funding portal. Required documents include a project description, financing plan, the guideline, an overview of personnel categories, and evidence of evaluation conformity. This program offers a sustainable opportunity to expand regional innovation capacities and realize forward-looking research and development projects.
