Description
The Natura 2000 Compensation Agriculture Directive in Saxony-Anhalt supports agricultural enterprises and private individuals with flat-rate compensation payments for areas located within designated Natura 2000 sites. The aim is to offset the additional financial burdens and potential yield losses resulting from ecological requirements, thereby linking environmental and nature conservation with a sustainable agricultural economy. Funding is provided to farmers who manage their land in accordance with the directive’s specifications and sustainably maintain their areas within these protected sites. The funding instrument is offered indefinitely and grants a non-repayable subsidy, which is determined by the extent of the relevant land and compliance with ecological management standards.
To apply, ownership or lease of land within the Natura 2000 site is a prerequisite; management according to the directive’s requirements as well as submission of a fully completed application to the responsible office of the Agency for Agriculture, Land Consolidation and Forestry (ALFF) are necessary. A site plan, proof of land ownership or lease, and the agricultural business certificate must be attached as documents. Projects run for a duration of 12 months, after which proof of use must be submitted. Evaluation primarily considers the size of the designated area and strict adherence to ecological requirements. With this straightforward application procedure, the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry of Saxony-Anhalt strengthens nature and species protection while simultaneously promoting a sustainable agricultural structure.
