Description

The Rolf Engelbrecht Prize is awarded biennially by the Bürgerstiftung Weinheim and honors outstanding civic engagement in the Baden-Württemberg region. With an endowment of €3,000, the award recognizes private individuals, initiatives, and non-profit associations that exemplarily promote a democratic urban society, international understanding, and tolerance. Named after Weinheim’s first democratically elected mayor, the prize commemorates his contributions to social cohesion and cultural diversity and provides the laureates with a platform for networking and visibility of their commitment.

Only persons and groups based in or with long-standing involvement in Weinheim are eligible. Key criteria include an exemplary role model function within the democratic state system as well as a concrete contribution to understanding between cultures and religious communities. The process ensures transparency and expertise: a jury evaluates submitted proposals based on the specified requirements and selects the awardees according to their sustainable impact on the common good. The award not only promotes recognition of voluntary work but also strengthens dialogue within the local network. This creates a multiplier effect that permanently enriches coexistence in Weinheim and sustainably consolidates democratic values.
