Description

SAB Sachsenkredit Energy and Storage – Balcony Power Plants enables private individuals in the Free State of Saxony to easily begin using renewable energy. Funding is provided for the purchase and installation of grid-connected, plug-and-play photovoltaic small systems (also called balcony power plants) with a fixed grant of 300 EUR per residential unit. The goal is to increase energy efficiency in the residential sector and promote climate protection. The program stimulates personal commitment and raises awareness for the conscious use of self-generated electricity. Currently, applications can only be submitted by tenants, as the quota for property owners has been exhausted. Funds are continuously available on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is depleted.

To qualify for funding, applicants must prove a primary residence in Saxony and have definitively ordered the plug-in PV system from June 22, 2023, or acquired systems with a power limit of 600–800 W from May 16, 2024. The PV modules must have a minimum output of 300 Wp, and the inverter must not exceed 800 W. Technical guidelines (e.g., DGS 0001) as well as registration in the Market Master Data Register of the Federal Network Agency are mandatory. Remuneration under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) for fed-in electricity is excluded, as is the simultaneous use of other public funding. Tenants also require a consent declaration from their landlord. After successful installation and commissioning, the application is submitted digitally – including a copy of the paid invoice, a photo of the operational system, the Market Master Data Register number, and the landlord’s declaration. The approved grant must be used for the intended purpose for three years.
