Description
Material Cost Subsidy for Scientific Projects/Dissertations from the Baumgart Foundation for Contemporary History continuously supports individuals, educational institutions, public and non-profit organizations throughout Germany and Austria. The aim is the in-depth historical analysis in the field of National Socialist concentration camps and perpetrator research. Only material costs in scientific research projects and dissertation projects that demonstrably deal with perpetrator biographies, camp personnel, or the social environment of the NS concentration camps are funded. Personnel costs are not eligible for funding. Prerequisites for funding include a topic in the field of NS concentration camps and perpetrator research, a verified dissertation project or research project, as well as the submission of a project outline via email. Evaluation criteria are the relevance to perpetrator research, scientific methodology and quality, as well as the anticipated contribution to NS contemporary history.
This funding is of interest to individual researchers and scientific institutions seeking to gain new insights into perpetrator roles or to close gaps in contemporary historical research. The Baumgart Foundation assumes that with the disappearance of the generation of contemporary witnesses, the culture of remembrance will increasingly rely on scientific analyses in the future. Applications can be submitted at any time; there is no application deadline. The results should be published in the form of a final thesis, manuscript, article, or book in German. An overview of the project and detailed funding guidelines can be found on the Foundation’s website. The award is granted as a non-repayable subsidy and aims to support the sustainable research and understanding of the mechanisms, responsibilities, and societal consequences of the NS camp system.
