Description
The funding measure targets transdisciplinary research projects that document, map, and secure Europe’s rich linguistic heritage in all its diversity over the long term. The focus is particularly on endangered, marginalized, and historically disadvantaged languages. Within the framework of Horizon Europe, innovative methodological approaches in linguistics, digital humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies are supported to advance the automatic capture, visualization, and mapping of linguistic diversity. Project proposals are expected to not only develop knowledge-based strategies but also formulate policy recommendations for educational and cultural institutions as well as political decision-makers. Another objective is to raise awareness of the value of the multilingual heritage and to promote intergenerational dialogues and participatory methods with language communities.
Eligible applicants are legal entities from EU member states and associated countries, including educational institutions, non-profit organizations, companies, and public bodies. The project duration is set at a maximum of 36 months, with funding amounts ranging from €5,000,000 to €5,750,000 at a funding rate of 100%. Personnel costs, travel expenses, material and auxiliary costs, as well as subcontractor and publication costs are eligible for funding. A consortium of at least three independent partners from different countries is mandatory. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, societal impact, and the quality and efficiency of project implementation. The submission deadline is 23.09.2026. Accompanying documents to be submitted include the project description, CVs of key personnel, detailed budget table, ethics self-assessment, and financing plan. This call offers actors in science, civil society, and regional language communities the opportunity to jointly set new perspectives for the protection and promotion of Europe’s linguistic diversity.
