Description
The Salzburg Folk Culture Prize honors outstanding, forward-looking contributions to the preservation and transmission of regional folk culture traditions in Salzburg every two years. Recipients can be individuals, non-profit organizations, interest groups, or other associations whose innovative projects have been realized within the last eighteen months. With a main prize endowed with €6,000 and two supporting prizes of €3,000 each, the award recognizes initiatives characterized particularly by a strong youth focus, sustainable community strengthening, and the promotion of cultural diversity. An independent jury evaluates ideas that link traditional forms of expression with contemporary methods, thereby highlighting diverse volunteer engagement. The prize is jointly awarded by the State of Salzburg, the Salzburger Nachrichten, and the Kurt and Felicitas Vössing Foundation.
Eligible to apply are individuals, initiatives, groups, or associations based in Salzburg that have implemented a project in the field of folk culture within the last 18 months. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, educational and scientific relevance, community promotion, youth focus, and cultural diversity. Submissions must include information about the person or organization, a meaningful project description, photographic material, and, if applicable, press reports. Interested parties can find all details about the current application deadline and procedure at www.volkskulturpreis.at. The award offers a unique opportunity to sustainably anchor volunteer engagement in folk culture and to inspire new audiences for traditional forms of expression.
