School for Children and Adolescents with Disabilities

The Social Fund Vienna (FSW) enables public institutions in Vienna to receive a continuous subsidy for the financing of school places in recognized special education schools for children and adolescents with physical, mental, or psychological impairments as well as special educational needs. The goal is to provide a needs-based, individualized school offering that ensures an optimal learning and development environment through specially trained educators and therapists. An extension of school attendance beyond the regular 13th grade is possible if required. The funding covers 100% of the incurred costs and can be applied for at any time. Prerequisites include proof of disability or special educational needs, compulsory schooling or justified school extension, Austrian citizenship or equal opportunity status according to § 4 CGW, as well as a main residence or habitual residence in Vienna for at least six months.

The target group is particularly those individuals who, due to their specific impairment, rely on a specially tailored educational support. The grant is awarded after reviewing the documents – such as medical reports, decision from the Vienna Education Directorate, registration certificate, and birth certificate – and based on the evaluation criteria of disability, proof of special educational needs, and residence in Vienna. Application forms are available from the FSW and are processed immediately upon receipt. The approval and disbursement of the subsidy are made directly to the recognized school. This measure ensures a long-term, inclusive educational service that meets the individual potentials and needs of the supported children and adolescents.
