Description
The BayWa Foundation enables primary and special needs schools throughout Germany to provide practical nutrition and environmental education through the school garden project. Equipped with a comprehensive starter kit including a raised bed, step-by-step instructions, and supplementary accompanying materials, participants learn about the natural cycle from sowing to harvesting. The program not only promotes students’ environmental awareness and sense of responsibility but also strengthens community spirit and playfully imparts health-relevant knowledge about fresh foods. Over a period of twelve months, teachers and school garden coordinators are supported throughout all work steps, ensuring that the school garden experience can be sustainably integrated into everyday school life. Full funding as an in-kind contribution (100% fee coverage) enables schools to implement the project easily without bureaucratic effort in securing funds.
For the 2027 planting season, educational institutions can apply from January 1, 2027, via an online form. The requirement is teaching at a German primary or special needs school and submission of one application per location. The application process only requires completing the web-based form to clarify all relevant project information and framework conditions. After positive review, the next steps will be individually coordinated. Through this funding, teachers have the opportunity to implement holistic learning formats that connect topics such as education, health, environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, and climate protection. Thus, the school garden becomes an inspiring learning environment that sustainably strengthens awareness of healthy nutrition and sustainability.
