Description

The Zukunft Wald Foundation supports educational institutions in Lower Saxony with a 100% grant for the establishment of their own school forests. Schoolyards or nearby areas starting from 0.5 hectares are transformed into vibrant "green classrooms," where students and teachers actively engage together. The support includes soil analysis, procurement and planting of trees and shrubs, as well as the construction of protective fences. Additionally, teaching materials, workshops, and training sessions are provided to deepen sustainable learning content and strengthen practical skills. Applications can be submitted continuously, provided the institution is motivated to maintain the school forest long-term and use it as an extracurricular learning site.

As an educational and climate protection project, the program promotes both CO₂ sequestration through new forest areas and the development of initiative and environmental awareness. Biodiversity is enhanced by creating habitats for numerous animal and plant species. Participating schools and kindergartens gain access to an online learning platform, regular networking meetings, and experienced project management. The process is structured into site identification, contract conclusion with landowners, planting activities during autumn and winter months, as well as ongoing maintenance and teaching sessions in the forest. The funding is aimed at all educational institutions in Lower Saxony without prior knowledge – motivation and a suitable area are sufficient to actively contribute to climate protection and inspire future generations for sustainable action.
