Description

The Sibylle Assmus Foundation annually awards two funding prizes in the field of neuro-oncology—one for basic research and one for clinical research—as well as a prize for neuroregeneration and neuroplasticity. Each endowed with €15,000, the awards recognize outstanding projects that advance new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for tumors of the nervous system or demonstrate innovative mechanisms of regeneration and plasticity. The funding initiative is aimed at young early-career researchers at academic institutions in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland who have contributed to neuro-oncology or neuroregeneration through excellent achievements within the past three years. The selection is based on scientific excellence, degree of innovation, relevance of the research project, and transparency of fund utilization. The prize money must be used for project-related expenses; consumables from the basic equipment are only eligible if specifically justified.

Applications can be submitted electronically as a PDF (max. 6 MB) in German or English starting November 1, 2026. The application should include a project description in the DFG format (max. 6 pages), a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a letter of recommendation from the chairholder or department head. Eligibility requires employment at an academic research institution in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland and demonstrably outstanding achievements in the funding area. The submission deadline is February 15, 2027; the funding rate is 100%. With this award, the Sibylle Assmus Foundation specifically supports young researchers in making pioneering contributions to the study of tumors of the nervous system and the regeneration of neuronal structures.
