Special Fund "Child Poverty" – AWO Saarland Foundation

The special fund "Child Poverty" of the AWO Saarland Foundation specifically supports socially disadvantaged children in Saarland through individual case assistance and the financing of group offerings in AWO facilities. With the aim of alleviating material hardship and establishing equal opportunities in education, health, and social participation, the funding is primarily used in cities such as Saarbrücken, Neunkirchen, Völklingen, and Sulzbach. Particular attention is given to families with multiple children and single parents, whose offspring are often multiply disadvantaged due to increased poverty risks. Designed as a grant, the funds are available to associations and institutions of the AWO LV Saarland after a thorough assessment of neediness and the exclusion of other state support claims.

The funding requirements include proof of special need, exclusion of further support claims, and sponsorship by an AWO facility in Saarland. Evaluation criteria are the degree of individual need, relevance for social participation, and the comprehensibility of the financing requirement. Applications can be submitted continuously; for this purpose, application forms for individual case assistance or project funding, a brief explanation of the acute emergency situation or project description, as well as proof of neediness and exclusion of other benefits must be attached. Upon completion of the measure, original receipts serve as proof of use. The fund offers non-profit organizations and public institutions the opportunity to effectively combat child poverty in Saarland and to implement sustainable offerings for disadvantaged children.
