Description
The Sir Hugh Carleton Greene Foundation awards the Special Local Journalism Prize to outstanding contributions in local journalism, honoring young journalists who can present a completed, published project. A prize of €2,000 is awarded in every media format—whether article, podcast, video clip, photo documentation, or digital magazine. Eligible to participate are all journalists up to 35 years old with journalistic training or equivalent skills, who reside and work professionally in Germany. The prerequisite is a completed and publicly accessible local journalism project without a paywall. The application period runs from May 15 to August 31, 2026; submissions must include a cover letter with contact details, portrait photo, CV, the completed project, and a short introductory video (max. 90 seconds).
The Special Local Journalism Prize complements the foundation’s broad range of support, which, in addition to international and specialized research scholarships, also includes the categories of science, business/finance, trade media, and crafts. The prize promotes not only creative concepts but above all journalistic style and societal relevance at the local level. The selection is made by the Sir Greene Foundation’s board of trustees, whose members are experts from media, science, and journalism. The award ceremony will take place on October 27, 2026, in Hanover. This distinction offers young journalists valuable recognition and supports them in making their local reporting more visible and realizing future projects.
