Description
The special program of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state government supports owners and leasehold holders in the renovation of vacant rental and cooperative apartments to provide permanent housing for households in need, disadvantaged groups, as well as asylum seekers and those seeking protection. The measure targets actors from various sectors such as public institutions, private individuals, and companies. With a non-repayable grant amounting to up to 50 percent of eligible expenses – a maximum of €5,000 per apartment – applicants receive financial support for the economically justifiable refurbishment of their housing. It is ensured that the technical minimum requirements, for example according to DIN standards, are met to guarantee permanent residential use.
A prerequisite for claiming the grants is that the application is submitted before the start of construction measures and that the municipality of occupancy confirms the existing housing demand. The funds are intended in particular to help eliminate vacancies and thus enable new, socially selected target groups to access adequate housing. Within the framework of the program, special emphasis is placed on proper administration and economical execution of the renovation measures. In addition to construction expertise in residential building, the program also promotes urban development and infrastructure modernization, thereby generating positive impulses for the entire residential environment.
The approving authority, organized by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Development Institute, reviews within a proper application procedure whether all conditions for funding are met. In addition to a detailed expenditure and financing plan and other required documents, such as the confirmation form from the municipality of occupancy, owners must demonstrate the necessary performance capability and reliability. Thus, the program contributes to the social renewal and modernization of housing in the region, which in the long term promotes not only housing quality but also urban coexistence. Through the targeted use of funding, a sustainable contribution to solving housing supply issues can be made – a benefit for affected households and the entire community.
