Description
The funding program “Space critical EEE components for EU non-dependence – GaN MMICs mm-Wave Foundations (Phase A)” is aimed at companies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, cooperatives, as well as public entities based in the EU or Horizon Europe associated countries. The focus is on the development and industrialization of semi-insulating silicon carbide (SiC) substrates for the production of high-frequency gallium nitride (GaN) MMICs for mm-wave applications in space. With a funding amount of up to €6,860,000 (100% funding rate) and a project duration of up to 36 months, the initiative aims to establish a sustainable and reliable supply chain in Europe. Requirements include the formation of a consortium of at least three independent partners from different countries, relevant experience in large-scale research projects, and compliance with ethical, security-related, and financial criteria.
Participants benefit from full cost coverage for personnel expenses, subcontractor services, material costs, and travel expenses. The project includes milestones and confidential deliverables for a detailed analysis of the supply chain, a comprehensive literature review, and the development of a business plan. The results are intended to strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy in the space sector, reduce dependencies on non-European sources, and enhance the global competitiveness of European GaN MMICs mm-wave components. Funding applications must be submitted online by 03.09.2026, 17:00 Brussels time.
