Language and Reading Promotion in Public Libraries

With the action line "Leseland Salzburg," the State of Salzburg supports creative initiatives in public libraries throughout the state that sustainably strengthen language and reading skills. The focus is on innovative reading encounters, storytelling events, and language-promoting workshops that equally engage children, adolescents, and adults. Public libraries can apply for funding contributions of up to 300 euros per calendar year. The program is aimed at all public libraries in Salzburg that wish to expand their local reading concepts and introduce new impulses in the fields of education as well as training and further education.

Applications can be submitted year-round without a fixed deadline. A prerequisite for approval is a fully completed funding application as well as the current annual report to the Austrian Library Association. Furthermore, the general guidelines for the granting of subsidies by the State of Salzburg must be observed. After a positive decision, the payment is made as a direct grant. Through the uncomplicated allocation structure and the manageable funding amount, this offer enables the rapid implementation of smaller projects and strengthens regional cooperation between libraries and educational providers. With this initiative, the State of Salzburg supports reading promotion locally and motivates public institutions to continuously further develop cultural and linguistic offerings.
