Description

Urban Regional Rail Financing according to Art. 15a B-VVG offers public institutions in Vienna a flexible grant option for co-financing cross-border tram and regional urban rail projects. Since November 15, 2021, applications can be submitted continuously, enabling the federal government and the state of Vienna to jointly support new construction investments for tram infrastructure as well as the expansion of regionally operated urban railways in accordance with Art. 15a B-VVG. Only projects in agglomerations with more than 100,000 inhabitants that are integrated into a regional overall transport concept and take into account the guidelines of the Mobility Master Plan 2030 are eligible for funding. As a direct form of support, the grant contributes to the realization of future-oriented transport solutions and strengthens public transport in terms of sustainable urban development and the digitalization of the mobility system.

The funding is aimed at municipalities, federal states, and public transport authorities pursuing innovative urban regional rail projects with supra-local impact. A prerequisite is the conclusion of an agreement between the federal government and the state according to Art. 15a B-VVG as well as integration into the regional mobility concept. Eligible expenses include the new construction of rail infrastructure for trams and the expansion of existing regional urban railways. This instrument pursues ecological, social, and economic sustainability goals to ensure resource-efficient mobility of people, goods, and information. Interested project sponsors can submit an application at any time and thus actively contribute to the realization of a high-performance, cross-border local transport network in the Vienna region.
