Urban Development Funding – Vibrant Centers

The Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building supports the sustainable development and enhancement of city and district centers throughout Germany within the framework of the "Vibrant Centers" program. Public institutions can continuously submit applications for grants to create multifunctional locations for living, working, business, education, and culture. Particular focus is placed on urban heritage conservation and the preservation of historic old towns. For the year 2024, a total of €300 million is available to specifically support infrastructural measures in areas such as urban development, regional promotion, heritage conservation, and rural development.

The funding offer aims to revitalize central supply areas and strengthen them as identity-forming meeting points. By consolidating previous initiatives on heritage conservation and active city centers, the upcoming structural change in inner-city areas is effectively accompanied. Municipalities and public bodies can thus implement tailored projects that enliven city centers, promote social participation, and create sustainable neighborhoods in the long term. The duration is open-ended, allowing for flexible planning and implementation. This funding format contributes to establishing vibrant, attractive, and resilient city centers and strengthening social cohesion locally.
