Description
The federal-state urban development funding program supports public institutions nationwide in profound transformation processes resulting from economic and demographic change, climate change, and advancing digitalization. The goal is the sustainable renewal and future-oriented development of urban spaces: from the renovation and modernization of the building stock to the enhancement of public spaces and the creation of climate-friendly and digital infrastructure. With continuously open application windows, the grant model enables demand-oriented funding that makes neighborhoods more attractive, identity-forming, and functional – always in the spirit of a city of short distances and resource-conserving inner development.
Eligible for funding are cities and municipalities with proven urban functional losses or structural changes, as well as neighborhoods with densification or development needs. Funding is provided, among other things, for adaptation to growth and shrinkage processes, the conversion of existing buildings, the revitalization of industrial, traffic, or military brownfields, and the improvement of green and open spaces. In addition, climate protection measures, digital technologies, and mobility concepts can be included in the funding. A prerequisite is co-financing by the respective federal state. This cooperative approach strengthens municipal capacity for action and creates livable, sustainable neighborhoods that meet the diverse challenges of the 21st century.
