The funding program strengthens the research and innovation capacities at public universities in Baden-Württemberg through grants of up to 40% of eligible expenses. Funding is provided in particular for new constructions and expansions of research buildings, the acquisition of major research equipment, as well as the establishment of regional innovation centers. Furthermore, the initiative supports collaborative projects between universities and small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as the development of prototypes from all research fields. The goal is to create state-of-the-art infrastructures, enhance knowledge transfer, and increase the marketability of innovative research results. Project applications must be submitted to the L-Bank before the start of the measure, with current deadlines to be observed in the respective funding calls.
Eligible applicants are public universities, universities of applied sciences, and non-university research institutes located in Baden-Württemberg. A prerequisite is a project with high innovation potential that contributes to the state’s innovation strategy and takes into account the ERDF cross-cutting objectives – Charter of Fundamental Rights, equality, non-discrimination, and sustainable development. Eligible expenses include, in addition to construction measures, equipment and prototype development, also the establishment of innovation centers as well as collaborative project activities. The legal requirements of the ERDF grant procedure (VEZ 2021–2027) apply bindingly. The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg is responsible for approval. Interested institutions can obtain further information on details such as funding rates, documentation obligations, and access requirements via the L-Bank.
