Description

The Start Scholarships of the City of Vienna offer young artists appreciative recognition and financial support for the realization of artistic projects. In the fields of Visual Arts, Architecture & Design, Photography, Video & Media Art, Fashion, Music & Performing Arts, Film Art, Literature, and Cultural Management, they provide an entry point into the national and international art scene. The program is aimed at individuals with Austrian citizenship or a primary residence anchored in Vienna for at least three years. A formal application must be submitted to the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, along with a financial or in-kind personal contribution corresponding to the applicant’s economic capacity. A project is considered eligible for funding if it cannot be realized fully or partially without the grant.

Under the ongoing submission deadlines, application forms for scholarships, acquisitions, and studios are published. Applications are submitted online via the Transparency Portal, where the form for scholarships, acquisitions, and studios must be completed. There are no application fees. The goal of the funding is the sustainable establishment of contemporary art and the creation of stable conditions for artists. With an annual total budget of approximately 660,000 euros, the Art and Culture Section of the BMWKMS supports that segment of the younger generation which designs innovative projects and contributes to the cultural diversity of the City of Vienna.
