Description

The Foundation of the Detmold University of Music has been committed since its establishment in 2006 to the sustainable promotion of musical excellence in North Rhine-Westphalia. With an endowment of over 2 million euros, it primarily supports the Detmold Young Students Institute and the Detmold Summer Academy. At the Young Students Institute, highly gifted children and adolescents receive early, comprehensive support that encompasses not only instrumental virtuosity but also personal development and broad music-theoretical competencies. Since 2004, the Detmold Summer Academy has annually brought together federal prize winners of the "Jugend musiziert" competition for master classes in chamber music, improvisation, and stage training. Participants benefit from course scholarships including full board and individual supervision by renowned university instructors.

Beyond these core elements, the foundation supports further internal university projects: an instrument fund enables talented students to access first-class string instruments, while the "Alfons Nowacki Scholarship" annually provides financial support to several students. Additionally, concert tours are organized, prize money for internal competitions is awarded, and student engagement is recognized. Eligible for funding are private individuals, educational institutions, and public bodies, whereby proof of musical giftedness, participation in the Young Students Institute or the Summer Academy, as well as awards in the federal "Jugend musiziert" competition, are among the funding requirements. Evaluation criteria such as musical excellence, development potential, and commitment ensure a transparent selection process. Applications can be submitted at any time, positioning the foundation as a reliable partner for ambitious young musicians and the Detmold University of Music.
