Hagenbeck Foundation: General Support

The Hagenbeck Foundation in Hamburg continuously supports individuals, students, as well as non-profit associations and initiatives engaged with projects at the Hagenbeck Zoo. As a grant provider, it funds initiatives in the areas of animal and species protection, recreation and education, research and teaching, as well as monument preservation. Both conceptual seed funding and implementation and follow-up financing are supported, with assistance available not only for material and personnel costs but also for the preparation of final theses. Projects that contribute to the communication of biological diversity or preserve historical park architecture may receive individual or project-specific funding. There is no maximum duration for funding, allowing long-term commitments in fields such as environmental/nature conservation, energy efficiency, climate protection, infrastructure, and urban development to find a solid foundation.

The application process is continuously open, with applications able to be submitted informally or according to standardized guidelines. The Hagenbeck Foundation thus addresses all those who wish to contribute to the further development of the zoo without claiming public operating funds. Participants benefit from a strong network of science, research, and practice-oriented educational work. The funding offers the opportunity to realize local and international species protection projects, establish educational programs, and preserve listed structural elements of the zoo. Through this offering, both professional innovations and the cultural and ecological values of the traditional Hamburg zoo are strengthened.
