Description
The German Music Life Foundation offers a nationwide series of annual scholarships for highly talented classical young musicians aged approximately 12 to 30 years. Private individuals with German citizenship or primary residence in Germany can apply for financial support for masterclasses, international study stays, competition participation, as well as training costs. Special funding lines are aimed, among others, at young pianists (Carl-Heinz Illies Scholarship), students from large families (Ernst Efinger Scholarship), and outstanding soloists (Gerd Bucerius Scholarship). A plausible cost and training plan is required for the funding approval, as well as proof of current competition successes. Eligible expenses include instrument insurance, sheet music and concert attire, up to travel costs for international courses. The project duration is twelve months each, with the funding period starting on July 1, 2026. Application deadlines vary: Carl-Heinz Illies until April 28, 2026, Ernst Efinger until May 27, 2026; further programs follow annually in spring.
Awarding is based on musical talent, documented successes at renowned competitions, and a well-founded training plan. Submitted documents include a tabular CV with artistic development, expert assessments, proof of competition successes, and a detailed cost breakdown in a single PDF file. Selection is conducted by a voluntary panel of experts who evaluate both professional excellence and potential for a professional music career. Through continuous support, young artists receive the necessary resources to focus intensively on their artistic development and to network internationally – a decisive step on the path to a sustainable career in music, culture, and further education.
