Description
The Graduate College Environment and Damage Prevention supports doctoral candidates with outstanding qualifications in the fields of environmental, extreme weather, and risk research at the universities of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe (KIT), and Dresden. Within the framework of the 2025–2029 work program, scholarships are awarded for research projects addressing coupled and extreme risks caused by weather events. Innovative doctoral projects based on meteorological analyses, interdisciplinary simulation methods, or new approaches to risk management and risk communication are supported. Furthermore, limited stays abroad may be funded to strengthen international research collaborations. The college builds on over 15 years of cooperation among the participating universities and offers an interdisciplinary platform for exchange between early-career researchers and experienced supervisors.
Eligible applicants are individuals with a completed university degree and a professional background in environmental or natural damage research, as well as a clear connection to the current work program. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, the innovativeness of the research project, and alignment with the goals of the Environment and Damage Prevention Foundation. Funding applications can be submitted at any time; there is no fixed deadline. Applications require a detailed project description, a curriculum vitae, and proof of university degree. The amount of individual funding depends on the duration and scope of the doctoral project. Through this ongoing call, dedicated early-career researchers have the opportunity to deepen their research on extreme weather, natural hazards, and resilience and to contribute to the development of sustainable prevention strategies.
