Description
The Carinthian state government supports scientific theses in the disciplines of folklore, cultural anthropology, and ethnomusicology with a thematic focus on Carinthia through two subject-specific scholarships. Each year, an independent expert committee awards one scholarship for diploma/master theses (endowment € 1,500) and one for dissertations (endowment € 3,600). Funded projects include, among others, research on everyday and festival culture, narrative and song studies, interculturality, or specialized research on "Carinthian folklore." The offer is aimed at students of relevant study programs at Austrian and foreign universities as well as universities of applied sciences who are writing an unfinished thesis related to Carinthia. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis without a deadline, thereby continuously providing new projects with a funding opportunity.
Requirements for application submission include a pre-completed and signed application form, a detailed research proposal outlining the research question, methodology, current state of research, relevance, and timeline, as well as a curriculum vitae. Additionally, proof of academic supervision and, if applicable, admission to doctoral studies must be submitted. Completed theses and projects that have already been funded by the state of Carinthia are not eligible to apply. The project duration ranges from 24 to 36 months depending on the type of thesis; disbursement is made in installments: two partial payments for master’s theses and three partial payments for dissertations. This funding strengthens early-career scientific work in regionally relevant cultural sciences and aims to achieve a balanced gender distribution among scholarship recipients.
