Structural Support for Municipalities

The "Structural Support for Municipalities" in Vorarlberg specifically assists small and financially weak municipalities in the construction, acquisition, and fundamental structural improvement of essential infrastructure facilities. The goal is to establish equivalent living conditions in all regions of the federal state. Funding is provided, among others, for municipal office buildings, compulsory schools, early childhood education and care facilities, fire stations, sidewalks and street lighting, as well as sports and recreational facilities. Investments in municipal vehicles, emergency power generators, and waste and recyclable material collection centers are also eligible for funding. Grants are awarded as non-repayable subsidies and cover up to 20% of the recognized investment costs, depending on financial capacity and population size. The maximum amount is €250,000 per individual project; for cooperative initiatives, funding can increase to a total of up to €550,000.

Eligible applicants are Vorarlberg municipalities with up to 5,000 inhabitants as well as municipal associations that join forces for cooperative infrastructure measures. The amount of the grant is determined by the financial capacity per capita quota and the degree of cooperation: individual municipalities with low financial capacity receive the highest funding rates, while cooperation results in an additional cooperation bonus of 15 percentage points. Applications can be submitted at any time with no deadline. Required are the completed application form and proof of the planned investment costs. Through this, the program makes a sustainable contribution to strengthening municipal capacity for action and promoting regional cooperation in Vorarlberg.
