Description

The Hans Merensky Scholarship Foundation supports talented, deserving, and financially needy German students throughout the country with ongoing study scholarships and project-related grants. Both regular course progressions and purpose-specific individual measures are funded, including internships abroad, theses (Bachelor/Master), study trips, as well as doctoral projects. The foundation places a special focus on Africa-related projects situated in fields such as forestry, geology, natural sciences, or medicine. Eligible to apply are all students of German nationality with verified enrollment or project approval, whose talent and financial need are demonstrated through a motivation letter, CV, project description, and a standardized proof of financial hardship. Supplementary letters of recommendation and a detailed cost calculation complete the application documents.

The funding process is open at all times and does not require fixed deadlines: upon receipt of the complete documents, the managing board reviews the applications for completeness and then forwards them to the curators in Germany and South Africa. A decision on approval is made within approximately four weeks. The foundation’s goal is to provide comprehensive support to students during and after their university studies—whether before starting their studies, during their academic career, or for further training measures. Through this system, the Hans Merensky Scholarship Foundation not only promotes individual talents but also makes a sustainable contribution to scientific and intercultural education with particular relevance to Africa.
