Description

The SWAB Kids Ocean Race is a nationwide sponsorship program that brings together educational institutions and companies to support students in grades 7–10 through a two-year practical project. Within 24 months, participants develop and build their own sailboat under the guidance of teachers and technical experts. The focus is on value development, teamwork, and STEM skills: physics, mathematics, and technology are linked in a practical way to sustainably foster scientific interest. The highlight is participation in the Kids Ocean Race alongside the legendary Ocean Race in Alicante, where the boats are tested in an international competition. This unique learning format creates a key experience that provides career-oriented impulses and contributes to securing skilled labor in Germany in the long term.

Eligible for funding are all schools in Germany from grade 7 onwards that enter into an educational partnership with at least one company or expert. Applications can be submitted at any time and are continuously reviewed. The goal is to secure sustainable resources in the German labor market through early networking between schools and industry and to increase interest in scientific and technical professions. The program offers schools and sponsoring companies the opportunity to take responsibility for the next generation and jointly contribute to practice-oriented education. The Kids Ocean Race impressively combines theory and practice and opens up sustainable prospects for young people in the STEM fields.
