Daily allowance from health insurance in Vienna financially supports self-employed individuals during inpatient care when the entitlement to sickness benefit is suspended. Instead of the sickness benefit, a daily allowance is granted, which is at least equal to the originally entitled sickness benefit and can be increased up to twice that amount by federal statutory regulation. The benefit is provided as a subsidy by the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (Section II) and is aimed at private individuals with residence or place of business in Vienna. Since this is an ongoing funding opportunity, applications can be submitted at any time and without limitation since 01.01.2013.

The funding aims to secure the livelihood of entrepreneurs, freelancers, and other self-employed persons during a stay in an institution, a spa, convalescence, or special hospital. Eligible applicants are all insured persons whose sickness benefit payment is suspended due to inpatient care or a spa stay billed by an insurance carrier or the Federal Office for Social Affairs and Disability. The prerequisite for payment is the informal submission of the application with proof of the suspension confirmation of the sickness benefit. The daily allowance is granted for the duration of the suspension period and is credited against the maximum duration of the sickness benefit entitlement.
