Description
Supported Independent Living for People with Disabilities assists adults with disabilities living in Vienna in their private apartments, shared housing, or studio apartment complexes. The service is based on individual care needs and follows the principles of maximum autonomy and self-determination. Recognized institutions offer punctual and needs-based support services ranging from telephone on-call availability to regular personal contacts and everyday accompaniment. The goal is to independently manage daily life, household, and daily organization and – if desired – to gradually manage without support. Supported Independent Living is funded as a subsidy by the Fonds Soziales Wien (FSW) and can be applied for indefinitely. The funding aims to maintain and expand personal scope for action and makes an important contribution to equal participation in social life.
Funding is provided to persons with a valid residence or habitual abode in Vienna, who are at least 18 years old and can demonstrate disability-related support needs. Applicants submit the following documents to the FSW: application for funding, official photo ID, birth certificate, proof of disability, proof of citizenship or equivalence, and residence confirmation. Decisions are made continuously, without exclusion deadlines, and are based on needs orientation, principles of self-determination, and the FSW’s quality standards. A multiprofessional team assesses the applications and decides on the approval of subsidies for the actual costs of service provision. Unused funds must be returned. Further details on the application process and required documentation are regulated in the FSW funding guidelines.
