Description
The Wübben Science Foundation gGmbH supports German universities nationwide in appointing outstanding international researchers at the R3 career stage to tenure-track professorships. The program aims to provide institutions with excellent material and personnel resources and to financially secure the first five to six years of the professorship. This includes personnel expenses, material costs, as well as targeted onboarding and dual-career measures that enable a swift integration and long-term inclusion in research and teaching. For a duration of 60 to 72 months, up to €1 million (five years) or €1.2 million (six years) can be applied for. The university contributes an equal amount of co-funding, which may also be assembled from third-party funds. Ten percent of the foundation’s share is available to the professors as unrestricted research funds.
Eligible to apply are all public German universities with a completed internal selection process or a planned direct appointment of a suitable candidate who holds a doctorate and has been working abroad for at least three years. Offers must not have been accepted at the time of application. Selection is based on external expert evaluations of the research project as well as an assessment of the onboarding and dual-career concepts. Strategic relevance for the university and international appeal also factor into the decision. Required documents include the program information, a detailed financing plan, the candidate’s CV, and proof of the internal selection process. Applications must be submitted via the online portal by March 31, 2026, or September 30, 2026.
