Description
The Thuringian Student Volunteer Day offers all school types and grade levels in Thuringia the opportunity on June 11, 2026, to experience voluntary engagement in community-oriented organizations firsthand. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants try out various activities – whether supporting food banks, designing parks, or assisting in nursing homes. The initiative by the Thuringian Volunteer Foundation aims to provide young people with practical insights into social and non-profit professions and to strengthen awareness of social cohesion. Already in 2025, over 5,600 students at more than 300 locations contributed diverse impulses for the community and gained valuable experiences beyond everyday school life.
The organization is carried out in close cooperation with regional volunteer agencies and volunteer coordinators. Teachers coordinate early on with school management and network partners to ensure smooth processes and suitable placements in Thuringia. Participation requires the approval of the school management as well as coordination by teachers in consultation with local network partners. In addition to valuable practical orientation, the action day promotes team spirit, a sense of responsibility, and motivation to engage socially in the long term. Funding through a grant from the Thuringian Volunteer Foundation enables schools to establish the day as a fixed component of the educational program and to provide students with sustainable impulses for their further engagement.
